Okay, so I’ve been stressing about how to start this site with my first blog entry. Do I talk about myself? My illness? My ideas on ethanol as an alternate fuel source? I think I should not get too lofty with my ideas at first, and wait until you’re hooked before I add the soapbox (just kidding). Anyway, enough delay tactics. My name is Lauren and I’m (yikes) 30 years old and chronically ill. I have been sick for 3.5 years and disabled for 3.25 years. I was an emergency veterinarian in my former life and have now been relegated to invalid. But I’m not going peacefully. I am finally doing well enough that I can occasionally spend some time on the computer, and I want to try and help others who are unlucky enough to be seriously ill. I have had to work through a lot of problems on my own, and if I can I want to try to make things easier for others so they don’t have to go through all of the bs that I’ve had to over the years. My plan for this blog is to give tips for ways to make your life a little bit easier, books that you might find helpful, techniques for coping, and useful support groups. I will also share a lot of my own medical problems, but I hope that this site will be useful for all chronically ill folks, not just those who have the same illnesses as me.
Also, you’ll notice that I have a tag for donation to my favorite group, Dysautonomia Information Network, so please donate if you can so that we can support the great work that this group is doing for those of us who are unfortunate enough to have a dysautonomia (a “broken” autonomic nervous system).
Please bear with me and my posting since I am ill. I will try to keep up with my posts as best I can, but often it will be a matter of choosing between posting and making a sandwich, so there may be a delay as I deal with fatigue, pain and relapses. Thanks for visiting my site and I hope that you or someone you know will find it useful.

Your condition would cripple most people and you continue to fight through it. I know others will find this site very useful. I am so proud of you. ABS

Lauren,
I don't know what to say. I had no idea that you have been sick. I'm not sure that I can think of you as anything other than the vivrant, driven, college student that I met almost (yikes) ten years ago.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Adam. Erin and I plan to donate to your research foundation when it gets off the ground. In the meantime, is there anything else we can do to help?
